I used to be a writer…

...but for some reason I don't write as much anymore. I looked back today at my archives and realized that I used to write much more frequently than I do now. I'm not sure why but it's true. Anyway, I have been thinking alot lately about the lack of empahsis in the conservative, evangelical church towards personal needs ministries. We are strong on evangelism, missions, worship and discipleship in our baptist churches, as we should be, but when was the last time we heard some pastor speak about the dire need for us to get our hands dirty and get involved in alleviating homelessness, or world hunger, or improving education among racial minorities and undreprivileged children? What about preaching and practicing racial reconciliation? I know we agree with these things, but it seems to me that it's mostly lip-service. We must get more involved. I think one of my favorite characteristics about John Piper is the fact that his church is in the middle of the inner city and the fact that he has one of the greatest commitments I've found towards racial reconciliation.
