Ten makes a decade It's hard to believe sometimes just how fast time goes by. I was thinking today that this year marks my tenth year since I started preaching. Now, it's obvious that I was pretty young when I started preaching, but to be involved in it for ten years makes me feel old nonetheless. What's even better than that, however, is that there is still nothing I enjoy more than preaching. I can't get enough of it. I'd preach every day if I could. I'd rather preach than go to a sporting event. I love it. I also believe that it's the area that God has gifted me in the most. Some would say, in that case, that I'm not a very gifted person, but that's just personal opinion. :-) In light of all of that, I have a prayer request. By the time most of you read this, I'll need your prayers. In all my years of preaching, I've never enjoyed it more than I do now, and yet tomorrow I'm going to preach and I'm terrified about it. I'm taking preaching class this semester and tomorrow is my first chance to do so in class. Seminary's a little different than college. At BCF we preached 3 sermons that were 9-13 minutes in length. Here we preach 7 sermons that are 45 minutes in length. Not only that but we have to turn in about 8 pages of Greek/Hebrew background work along with our sermons. I've put in about 14 hours on this sermon alone and I've still got 6 more sermons to go. What's worse than all that, however, is that our professor is a very dilligent grader. In other words, it's pretty common for people preaching their first sermon in his class to do poorly. I'm really worried that I'm going to get shredded in class. I know it won't affect my ability to preach, but I am fearful of it anyway. So if you think about it, pray for me around 11:15am Central time. I'd really appreciate it.
