Weekend Worship :: The Aroma of Christ among the nations

This week, rather than music, I want to point you towards a powerful message about God’s grace and His call to communicate that grace. Dr. John Piper is one of my favorite preachers. I hope you will watch and consider his words about the apostle Paul in this clip from a 2007 message.

Micah is a husband to Tracy & a daddy to Grace, Kessed & Haddon. He’s Senior Pastor at Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. Most of all, he’s a debtor to grace.

  1. I owe a debt to John Piper I will never be able to repay. More than any contemporary teacher he has painted a picture for the Glory of God on my mind and affection that has completely consumed my desires. It was through his ministry and that I beheld the completeness and sufficiancy of God’s work of redemption in a persons heart as Pastor John unpacked the Five Points of Calvinism. He has also introduced me to the Great Puritian Pastor Johnathan Edwards who challenges me both spiritually and intellectually. This clip from You Tube is another example of why I love John Piper. He challenges my comfortable American Christianity with the pure essence of what a life devoted to God is like.

Paul in Colossians 1:24 says”Now I rejoice in my suffering for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s affliction for the sake of his body, that is the church.” Not that christ’s afflictions were at all insufficient, quite the contrary. What I believe Paul what is say is that his suffering is a tangable expression of Christ’s love for the church, expressed through Paul’s suffering in order to make God’s word fully known. This ministry of suffering is an Aroma that is pleasing to God.

My prayer is that God would grant me the grace whenever he calles me to suffer for his Gospel. What worrys me sometimes is that I know in and of myself I do not have the strength, but I was also dead in my sin and he regenerated me and gave me new life. So when the time comes I know that his grace will be sufficiant. Thank you for posting this clip.
