Weekend Worship :: Idolatry in America

This week, for our Weekend Worship, I want to highlight a video of Pastor Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church in Seattle, WA. Driscoll’s presentation is often unorthodox, but his messages are thoroughly biblical. Although I have occasion to disagree with him (on the other hand, who out there won’t I disagree with on occasion?), I find his preaching to be a breath of fresh air. Their is no sense of “plastic pastor” with Driscoll and his refreshing candor and faithful interpretation of scripture is much needed in our culture. I encourage you to consider his words this week about idolatry in America. I know they were convicting to me.

Micah is a husband to Tracy & a daddy to Grace, Kessed & Haddon. He’s Senior Pastor at Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. Most of all, he’s a debtor to grace.

  1. Micah – I received a similar explanation from a national pastor when I was in Haiti. The voodoo shrines and idols are everywhere there; the spiritual darkness and oppression was really getting to me. I asked him how he dealt with it.

He said “I had a much more difficult time when I visited the United States. The billboards, TV, materialism…that was spiritually oppressive to me.”

    That was very enlightening.
