Weekend Worship :: Good Friday :: The Wonderful Cross

On this Good Friday it is only appropriate to celebrate the cross. The videos below highlight Chris Tomlin along with Matt Redman leading “The Wonderful Cross” from Passion One Day back in 2000. It’s an incredible song that sings of the wonderful love Christ communicated on the cross.

If you will watch the whole video you will be moved, I am certain, as a couple of gentleman carry a cross towards the front of the stage area. Watching as people throw themselves at the foot of the cross is always a powerful reminder, in visual form, of our need to throw ourselves at the cross.

I hope it reminds you today to think about and praise God for the wonderful cross. Have a wonderful Easter!

Micah is a husband to Tracy & a daddy to Grace, Kessed & Haddon. He’s Senior Pastor at Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. Most of all, he’s a debtor to grace.

  1. I’ll never forget the Sunday morning worship service when my youngest son snuggled up to me and showed me what he’d drawn during the service…the cross, with Jesus hanging on it, and a boy prostrated at the foot of the cross, bowing down before the Savior…and my son’s pointing to the child in his drawing and saying it was he…a visual representation of the thoughts and belief and desire of his heart. Seeing this image from Passion 2000 again moves me on so many levels, but especially as it recalls that morning when salvation came again to our house, and to my boy.
There’s beauty here on this video in song, the praising of our God, the glory and wonderfulness and wonder of the Cross, the lack of pretense, the lack of worry about propriety, the tossing aside of inhibitions in people throwing themselves before the cross, the outward expression of inward need and passion and heartfelt praise.

  2. Thanks for the memories Micah…I was at OneDay 2000, and that song had to be one of the most intimate and moving worship experiences of my life! During the next few songs, the cross actually was passed down the crowd (crowd surfed…but that doesn’t sound very spiritual) and it was an amazing image of people all around the cross being drawn to touch it as it passed by them…running and reaching and crying as they reached out! It will be an amazing day to have that desire to run towards and reach out and worship God in His presence for all eternity!
