Quilts, Tattoos and 22 years of marriage

Micah and I have been married for 22 years.  It’s not our anniversary today - that was in May.  May 21.  This isn’t really an anniversary post, but it kind of is. We got married in the year 2000 which makes it easy for us to remember how long we’ve been married!  He was 21 and I was 2 months past my 20th birthday.  We were young.

This past year for our anniversary, my mom gave us the sweetest gift……even if I technically asked for it. She took the time and effort to make us a KING-SIZED beautiful quilt for our bed.  It was a labor of love and it is so special.  She surprised us with one square embroidered with something super special.

We love it and she chose colors and patterns that would go with our comforter set and she nailed it!!  We absolutely love it and I wanted to share it with you.

Two years ago for our 20th anniversary, we had a fabulous trip planned that included New York, Acadia National Park, driving through New Hampshire & ending in Boston where the Kansas City Royals (our favorite team) were playing there the very week of our anniversary!!  But 2020 happened…….

….so instead we decided to get matching tattoos (I know, I know…..).   I’ve explained my tattoo probably three times this week and so I thought I’d share publicly what it signifies.  It’s the sign of the Trinity - God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit - with a circle (representing a wedding band) running through it signifying our marriage being founded on our faith in Jesus.  Mine has some floral design around it and some color to make it a little more feminine.  The words around it are lyrics from a song that describes our marriage and our wedding date.  “That’s what the promise is for” and May twenty-one two thousand.

That’s what the promise is for - May Twenty-One, Two Thousand.

I love being married to Micah Fries.  It’s one of my greatest blessings in this life. God has brought us through many “minefields” together (listen to the song), none more significant that these past two and a half years, though.  (A story for another day…..) I can’t wait to see what the next 22 years + holds.
