They just keep coming!

I’ll tell you what, this is a great time to be a part of Frederick Boulevard! I am so thankful for what God is doing among us. Today was amazing for a number of different reasons, many of which we shared with those of you who were there, each of them is worth getting excited about, and each of them is worth recapping so here goes!

  • Our Worship Team once again blew me away in both services! I am so grateful for how they lead us in worship!
  • Beyond that, the rest of our staff keeps amazing me. Gary, Anthony, Vikki, Jan, Debbie, Brenda, Rex, Charles, Steve and Ray work hard to make sure that everything is taken care of. I was reminded again this morning just how thankful I am that they are on our team. I can’t be thankful enough for the incredible staff that we have at Frederick!
  • Chris Ellis, our new Director of Children’s Ministries, begins her time with us tomorrow! I am so thankful that Chris is joining us. I hope you make her welcome. She’s going to do an amazing job.
  • Trey Drowns has begun working with us as our new Intern in the area of Worship Ministry. I hope you are as excited about Trey as I am. God is going to use Trey in amazing ways!
  • We have no less than 4 major missions projects over the next 5 weeks! From our Path to Victory NASCAR outreach to our upcoming trip to Guatemala, to our StJoeServe community wide service project and finally our Go Conference! Wow. I get tired just thinking about it. God is going to do some amazing things through our church’s commitment to reaching out.
  • Also, we have our candidate for the new position of Hispanic Campus Pastor coming in this week to interview, for a final time, with our Elders. If all goes well, we’ll bring him before the church soon!
  • Our attendance keeps growing! Through August we were up 20% since last year but when you factor in the month of September it grows to around 30%! It looks like we’re on track to finish the year with our highest attendance ever. It’s been fun as we’ve started planning for a 3rd service. Wow, isn’t God incredible???

Oh, and on top of all that, I get home tonight and find out I won in both of my fantasy football leagues, and I see the following pictures on ESPN.com. What a great day!

It’s good to see SEC teams occupying half of the top ten and also to watch Aaron Rodgers prove again that Green Bay‘s management may actually know what they’re doing.

Micah is a husband to Tracy & a daddy to Grace, Kessed & (soon to be) Haddon. He’s Senior Pastor at Brainer Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. Most of all, he’s a debtor to grace.

  1. Now John, I would expect an engineer to pay more attention than that. You must be looking at the USA Today poll which hasn’t been updated yet this week (I believe it hasn’t anyway). The AP poll has 5 SEC teams in the top 10.

  2. John-

I’m confused. What part of that statement is inaccurate? if you could point me to that portion, I’ll gladly change my statement. Thankfully that statement is factually correct. Half of the top ten are teams from the SEC. I never specified which top ten and since it’s found in two of the three I’ve referred to, I’d say I’m pretty safe in my statement. πŸ™‚

  3. Come on, Micah. You know your post is misleading… putting the USA Today top ten up, then saying SEC teams occupy half of the top ten when they clearly fall one short of that (equalling the BIG 12 with four, no less!)…

Methinks someone is trying to weasel out of an errant statement, even in face of insurmountable evidence… πŸ™‚

Worse, I wonder if someone is getting a bit insecure about the supposed dominance of their favorite conference… πŸ™‚

(You know I can’t resist giving you a hard time about this!)

  4. John I’m really surprised that you keep pushing this when all you have to do is look at my post to see that I’m right. Why would you assume that the USA Today poll has any more validity than the AP poll? I posted both of them and simply said “It’s good to see SEC teams occupying half of the top ten” which is clearly a statement validated by simply looking at the polls I posted. For me to change my statement would somehow try and make the case that the USA Today poll carries more weight than does the AP poll hence the need to correct my statement to point out that it is an accurate poll and the AP poll should be neglected.

Methinks the truth is that you’re touchy about the Big Twelve and any inferences that they might be inferior and you don’t like it when someone points out that they’re simply not in the same league as the SEC.

  5. I can think it’s misleading because it is misleading. Your statement is not validated by looking at the “polls” (plural)… half of the polls you’ve posted don’t support your assertion.

But seriously, Micah… You’re taking this far more seriously than you should. As I’ve been doing all day as we’ve gone back and forth, I’m laughing my head off as I write this… seriously! πŸ™‚

You know me well enough to know that I’m just giving you a reason to indulge in something we both enjoy and are both far too good at… arguing over meaningless sports junk. πŸ™‚

  6. Micah,

Where will your team be going to in Guatemala and what will you be doing? If my memory serves me correctly, I’ve made 8 trips to Guatemala in the past 3 years and have 3 more scheduled for next year. I’d be interested in hearing about your upcoming trip.

  7. Gary-

We are working with the IMB to potentially become an SC church for the Quiche people in the city of Santa Cruz del Quiche. We are very excited about it!

3 of us from Frederick will be visiting the city for about a week on a vision tour type of trip.

  8. Micah,

I looked it up on the map via Google and saw that Santa Cruz is a bit north of Lake Atitlan. I hope you all will have a chance to visit there either coming or going. It’s a beautiful lake, bordered by 3 volcanoes and surrounded by a number of small towns. The IMB has a guest house in Panajachel. Hope your trip goes well.
