I often write about things that I observe, and many times these things are issues that concern me. This blog has become a wonderful outlet for me. Unfortunately, one of the by-products is that I often can find myself focusing on the difficult challenges and not spending enough time simply praising God and recognizing His goodness.
On my 3 hour drive home from Columbia this evening, God really spoke to me as I drove and listened to worship music. I was reminded, all over again, about God’s greatness and His grace which He pours out for me. As a result I wanted to take just a minute or two and thank Him.
Almost 18 years ago, God took my self-righteous, arrogant heart and captured it for Himself. He grabbed me up out of my pit of self-satisfaction and spiritual overconfidence, and offered me eternal life. His action towards me was all His work. I was too self-confident to ever consider that I might not be an authentic believer. As a result of His graciousness, I was made into a new creature. Since that time He has consistently taken me and strengthened me in Him as I have walked through His Word. He has blessed me far beyond what I could ever imagine with a wife and two daugters that I don’t deserve. He has allowed me the privilege of serving Him in ministry at some wonderful churches and even around the world. He has now blessed me with the privilege to pastor an amazing church and He constantly amazes me with what He is doing among us. Thank you, God, so much for your faithfulness to me, especially when I am not faithful to you!
I wish that I could write as well as Paul did, but unfortunately I cannot. So, instead of trying to continue writing on my own, I want to simply copy Paul’s words at the end of Romans 11 that communicate my own thoughts so well.
33Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and[i] knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
34“Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?”[j]
35“Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay him?”[k]
36For from him and through him and to him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.
