I wish I wasn’t

On nights like this I wish I could just stop being a Royals fan. We’re winning by a score of 8-3 in the 9th inning and we have one of the top bullpens in all of baseball. So, what do we do? Well, we proceed to lose on a home run in the 10th inning. This 10 game losing streak is as bad as I can remember any losing streak in recent Royals history, and that’s saying something. I still love the Royals, but tonight I wish I didn’t.

Ugh.

There are very few things I enjoy more than a day out at Kaufman Stadium watching the Royals, especially when we’re completing a sweep of the Tigers. :-) I thought I’d put up a few pictures that we took this afternoon.

This first pic is of Tracy and I after the game was over.

This next shot is of Royals young phenom, Billy Butler, as he takes a swing.

This third is of the team as they’re preparing for the 9th inning.

This final picture is Tracy and I along with our friends Ricky and Ashley who went to the game with us.

It’s just another reason to be a Royals fan! According to Midwestern Seminary’s website, there will be a special chapel service held on Thursday, April 24th and the guest speakers that day will be Dayton Moore (General Manager of the Royals) and Trey Hillman (Manager of the Royals). I knew that Hillman was a believer and a Southern Baptist as well, but was not aware that Moore was a Christ follower. I’m planning to be in chapel that day. It sounds like an exciting service. :-)

Ok, I know it seems strange to admit it, but I’m a Kansas City Royals fan. I’m not just a little fan either. I love the Royals. I listen to almost every game on the radio, if I’m not in attendance at Kaufman Stadium. I eat up all the minor league reports I can. I read at least 3 Royals blogs a day. I love the Royals. That may say something about my mental aptitude, but let’s not go down that road. ;-)

Anyway, I’m very excited (as usual) about the upcoming season. Only 6 days until Opening Day! Yesterday, though, our very speedy reserve outfielder, Joey Gathright, made an amazing play that I had to share with you. The video is posted below, if you haven’t seen it yet. Keep in mind that the guy he’s jumping over is 6′1″ tall. This is an incredible play.

royals.gifOk, so I know it’s early. I also know that history is pushing against me. All in all, however, I can’t help but be more than a bit excited when I take a look over at ESPN.com and notice that in their first pre-season power poll they have the Royals ranked 11th in all of Major League Baseball! We are ranked ahead of such teams as the Cardinals, Red Sox, Dodgers and Angels. Man, here comes baseball and I am excited!
