Making technology easier

As this post goes up on the web I’ll be in the middle of speaking at Impact 2008 on the topic of Affordable Technology in the small church. I’ll be adding the audio as soon as I can get it edited, formatted and uploaded.

As I was preparing for this talk I was originally planning to create a cd that included a plethora of resources. I decided against it for a couple of reasons. First, it’s pretty expensive to produce cds for more than 100 people who are attending the conference. Secondly I realized I could build a website that anyone could access and that way every person at the conference as well as those who didn’t attend can access the resources. Finally I realized that it’s easy to lose a cd. This will be available even if you lose a copy of the files I’ll provide on this site.

So, if you are looking for help with technology specifically geared to the church, you can find the early stages of this site by clicking here.

I have made it abundantly clear, I imagine, over the past year or so that I am a big fan of SBC President Dr. Frank Page. He is a wonderful conservative pastor who has served well as a peace maker over his term as President. We need more statesmen like Dr. Page in SBC life.

Dr. Page is speaking now and we are recording the audio. I probably won’t have it available until later tonight because I am scheduled to speak after Dr. Page. I’ll get it up as soon as I can, however.

We are currently enjoying Dick Church, Spiritual Awakening and Resource Coordinator of the North American Mission Board. Dick is doing a fantastic job imploring us to engage more effectively and more fervently with evangelism. We had a problem with the audio file for Dick. It should be up but it will probably be a few days before it is posted.

Dr. Greg Lawson, from Southeastern Seminary, finished a very strong appeal concerning financial considerations within the Small Church. This was, I believe, one of the more convicting message of the entire conference.

While much of the conference has been seminar style, C.B. Scott is speaking right now and he has exchanged the seminar concept for pure preaching. It has been a really good message. Once it is finished I’ll get the audio up.

Here’s a picture for you.

I had to post a picture or two of Kevin in his suit and tie.

Well, after a little bit of sleep last night we’re back for day 2 of the conference which promises to be an exciting one. Last night was a fun evening for me because a really good friend of mine, Patrick Fuller, is a local pastor at Southside Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC and Patrick came down and spent some time with me after the conference ended. Patrick and I were really good friends during college. I was a groomsman in his wedding and he was in mine. We don’t get to see each other that often so it was really nice to see him and hear about the good things that God is doing at Southside.

The highlight of today’s schedule, while looking at the itinerary, is hearing Dr. Frank Page, SBC President, speak this evening. Until then, however, I’m looking forward to hearing a couple of friends speak. Kevin Bussey will speak in just a few minutes on how the small church can engage in Church Planting. Kevin, for those of you who know him, is wearing a suit and tie. I promise to post a picture. ;-) C.B. Scott is also speaking this morning. C.B. is a man that I really admire in SBC life. I’m looking forward to hearing him share about seeing how God is at work in the small church.

Right now Dr. Chris Schofield, who works with the Prayer and Spiritual Awakening Department of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina is sharing on how you can have an effective prayer ministry in the small church. I’ve thrown a picture up of Dr. Schofield and will hopefully have the audio up soon.
