Beyond commendable

Russell Moore has written a wonderful article on the need for us to pray for our political leaders, and in particular he highlights those, like Nancy Pelosi, who may share different worldviews than ours. This is a tremendous read and a needed departure from the all too typical “selling of our souls” to the religious right. I would highly recommend that you click here and read this article.

Micah is a husband to Tracy & a daddy to Grace, Kessed & Haddon. He’s Senior Pastor at Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. Most of all, he’s a debtor to grace.

  1. Good article.

Some time ago, I heard Myles Munro preach about God’s purpose for us. He told the story of a Martian finding some strange-looking device on earth, and trying to figure out what its purpose was. Bottom line: you have to ask its maker what that is.

God spells it out for us, and praying for our leaders is one of them. We get into trouble when we hold the view that we’re most like the slaves on the oars of some medieval ship, pulling away to the beat of some drum. And we are NOT that.

We’re the Captain’s kids and we’re part of the victory party (but note Luke 17:10 for the accompanying attitude), and to see the victory we must do as we were told. And that’s not slaving in the bowels of the ship, it’s up in the Master’s Quarters doing the great work of the church, which no other entity on earth can do.

    Prayer.
