A Wiley leader?

Wiley DrakeWe need more leadership like Wiley Drake. No, I’m not a fan of a lot of his positions, but I love his servant heart and he is a good example of someone who is much different than me, but whom I would give my right arm to partner with, because of his love for Christ and people.

I would STRONGLY encourage you to read this post about Wiley, and then to watch this video interview that John Stickley and I did with Wiley at the Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting this past summer.

What do you think? Are you ready to sleep with homeless people? I’ll be honest, when I first read the article I was all set to bash some of our leaders because they wouldn’t do that. Then it hit me that I probably wouldn’t be willing to do it either.

God give us more leaders like Wiley.

Micah is a husband to Tracy & a daddy to Grace, Kessed & Haddon. He’s Senior Pastor at Brainerd Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN. Most of all, he’s a debtor to grace.

  1. I think God just showed me something. We spend a lot of time figuring out who should be a leader. Like who should run for this office or that.

Perhaps it is, that we should figure out what sort of person we should be following.

In that sense, Wiley is indeed a leader. Maybe he’s not a great orator, great motivator, great organizer, or great rallier of the troops. But he is just the sort of guy we’d all do well to follow.

Lead on, Wiley, brother of mine.

  2. As an intercessor, I have been praying for Wiley. He is God’s…his leadership and ministry are a great example to us all…may we all belong totally to God. Wiley is not afraid to go to the masses in the field or to stand alone, alongside one who is in need. Thank you, God…for Wiley Drake…may we all learn from your technique with Wiley of how to be a disciple and make disciples!
