Wordpress 2.5

March 31, 2008

Well, I was excited today to see that Wordpress 2.5 is now released for general public consumption! 2.5 is a pretty extensive overhaul of the Wordpress framework. The aesthetics of the overhaul will be the first thing you notice but the changes are legion. To take a look at a more comprehensive list of the changes, click here.

For those of you who read this and you are a Wordpress beginner, you may not understand or even be scared of a Wordpress upgrade. If that is true for you, I have good news! Wordpress has a new plugin available that, once it is installed, will automatically install Wordpress for you so that you don’t have to go through the difficult process of manually updating your software. For the plugin, you need to click here.

I have not used 2.5 enough yet to make a decision about whether I like it or not. I am interested to play with it, however, and see how it works out. I’m interested to hear from you as well!

What do you think?

Pretty cool that they’re providing that plugin, cuz the upgrade process is what scares me…

I upgraded yesterday on my personal blog. I like it very much. I’m concerned about plugin compatibility, specifically with PodPress, which we use on our group blog for podcasting. If that doesn’t work, we’ll have to wait on an update before upgrading that one.

Micah,

I can’t get the plugin to work. I wonder what I did wrong.

UPDATE: I installed PodPress on my own blog, and it works perfectly with WordPress 2.5, as the inspirational video I have posted proves…

Highly recommend it, Micah. Just from my limited use in the past week.

Hey Micah,
All I can say is - until your presentation at Impact ‘08, I didn’t even have a clue as to how to think about starting a website. Now, I’m a blogger AND a WEBMASTER!! :-) I used WordPress 2.5 to get it all done. I started this weekend and if I can do this, there is no excuse . . . I don’t know about previous formats and there are definitely lots of things to add to or upgrade to our website, but now we have our own, and we can add to it and refine it as time goes by. I still don’t think anyone will call me a geek :-)
Thanks again, Brother.

Thanks for letting me know.

I need help. I finally got the updater on my site but it stalls in “maintenance” mode.

I started building a WP blog just last week, and a few days into the process, the 2.5 update appeared. I probably can’t appreciate the differences as much as a WP veteran, but now that I’ve got some code problems fixed, I’m liking 2.5 a lot. The visual user interface is a big step fwd, IMO.

Ariel-

I think you’re going to love WordPress! It’s so far beyond Blogger, in my opinion. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying 2.5.
